St Helens Restaurant is hoping for success with its nomination for the second year running in the UKTV Food Local Hero Awards.

The awards, presented by chef Gary Rhodes, is a nationwide search to find Britain's heroes of food who refuse to compromise on flavour, manufacture or quality in their endeavours to put local food on the plates of their customers.

Mark Young, owner and chef at St Helens Restaurant is understandably delighted to be nominated again.  “It is acknowledgment of the growing support for the local food network and the part that the restaurant plays in that.  The coverage provided by the competition will help to raise the profile of local food and the Island as an attractive foodie destination, which makes me very happy.  And it goes without saying, winning would be amazing for my restaurant team!”

St Helens needs your vote to win. Go to www.uktvfood.co.uk and register your details to log your vote. Select southeast region and click on the St Helens Restaurant link.

Fantastic meal at my local restaurant, the meals are always to a high standard with such attention to detail. The locally caught Seabass was divine. I had a fantastic birthday out with the girls and we'll be back again soon. 10/10

We are lucky enough to live within walking distance of this restaurant. We have eaten there many times for brunch, Sunday lunch and for dinner. Always great food with very friendly staff creating an atmosphere that makes you want to stay. All his suppliers are listed so you feel confident that they do as they say - cook the best of local. If you are on the island visit St Helens you will not be disappointed.

The Isle of Wight now boasts an increasing number of fine restaurants, but in my opinion, this one is up there with the best. The flavours of the dishes, all made with locally sourced Island produce are divine and so well seasoned that I challenge anyone to need a salt pot. Mark's passion for what he believes in shines like a beacon and to cap it all he's a thoroughly nice bloke too! Add a wine list that's got real thought at very good prices and you have one of the best places to eat superbly presented flavoursome food on, not only the Island, but the south coast

My husband and I have visited the St Helens several times; it has become a firm favourite which we regularly recommend to friends and family. In fact our entire family (all 10 of us) are visiting soon to enjoy some of Mark's festive fair. The food is always very tasty and well presented, the service friendly but efficient and the atmosphere very inviting. We love to read the menu to spot the local producers (including the local berry supplier who lives round the corner)and will definitely be returning again and again.

From a Sunday Brunch to a full evening meal this is a first rate Restaurant. The source of all ingredients is openly advertised. Ambience is superb and food is always of the highest quality. For a small village St Helens is blessed with two excellent restaurants.

We have stayed in St Helen's three times and love this part of the Isle of Wight. Recently visited the refurbished St Helen’s restaurant and had a fantastic meal. As a veggie there was only one option but very good, with thought and imagination, cauliflower and sorrel soup to start and squash, goat’s cheese and pistachio tart for main. My husband had had the belly pork for starter and skate as main, thoroughly enjoyed them both and all locally sourced produce. Service and atmosphere was faultless, we could not ask for more. If visiting the IOW this should be on your places to eat out.
